Pteris vittata L.

This species is native to Tropical & Subtropical Old World, extending to SW Pacific. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is one species of Pteris occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

علم تشكل النبات


A tall perennial fern that forms small clumps ; up to 1 m in height , with leathery divided fronds and stout stems , and usually short stipe , straw-colored , with pale brown scales below . Fronds tufted , leathery , dark green , divided into 10 to 40 pairs of leaflets ; lamina narrowly elliptic to elliptic-oblong , 1-pinnate , glabrous . Spore cases (sori) borne on the margin of the lower leaf surface . (Ref . Miller & Cope ; 1996) .

الاستخدامات


As a treatment for headache. Also to stop the nosebleed and the bleeding from fresh wound. The vernacular name 'ginah al ghurab' literally means "the crow wing"; refers to the shape of the fronds. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).
