Small , erect , subshrub or shrub ; up to 80 cm tall . Stems erect , densely branched , stiff , whitish and transversely rugose . Leaves opposite , minute , 1-2 mm long , unobtrusive , scale-like . Inflorescences borne in clusters in the leaf axils , dioecious . Flowers yellow cones . Fruit cone , fleshy , red when mature , 1-seeded . Seeds ± 5 mm long . (Ref .
