Small , erect , subshrub or shrub ; up to 80 cm tall . Stems erect , densely branched , stiff , whitish and transversely rugose . Leaves opposite , minute , 1-2 mm long , unobtrusive , scale-like . Inflorescences borne in clusters in the leaf axils , dioecious . Flowers yellow cones . Fruit cone , fleshy , red when mature , 1-seeded . Seeds ± 5 mm long . (Ref . Boiled stems used as body bath for the treatment of patients suffering from paralysis, nerves and muscle spams. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden). In Omani studies: Pickering & Patzelt (2008) wrote that: "Reported as a treatment for symptoms of asthma. Fruit is edible". (Ref. Field Guide to the Wild Plants of Oman; 2008).
