Aloe vera (L.) Burm.f.

This species is native to the Arabian Peninsula; introduced world wide and considered an invasive species in many world regions. (Ref. https://en.wikipedia.org). There are 5 species of Aloe found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

short-stemmed , succulent perennial ; up to 1 . 5 m tall , usually forming dense clumps with yellow sap . Stems decumbent , to 50 cm . Leaves succulent , 15-20 in a tight rosette , ascending to erect , grey-green , often with a few pale spots low down , with a smooth surface , lanceolate , tapering to a point , to 60 cm long and 7 cm broad at base , margins with white delolate , 3 mm long , 5-10 mm apart . Inflorescences erect , 100-140 cm , with 2-3 branches from about the middle ; racemes cylindrical , rather densely flowered , to 25 cm long ; bracts deltoid , 6-8 x 3 . 5 mm ; pedicels 7 mm long . Flowers numerous , sharply deflexed , tubular , yellow/red ; perianth segments yellow (sometimes red) , glabrous , 30-32 mm ; outer and inner perianth segments connate for about a third to half their length . Fruit capsule , oval , many seeded . Sap yellow , drying yellow-brown . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .

The inner flesh of the succulent leaves is taken orally to treat a condition of body dehydration. It is also consumed as a treament for diabetes. The gel is applied over skin burns or feet cracks. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).
