Cyperus alulatus J.Kern

This species is native to S Oman, extending to Afghanistan, Nepal and Central India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 24 species of Cyperus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Tufted annual herb ; up to 40 cm high with numerous hairless reddish brown roots . Stems (culms) , sharply trigonous , smooth . Leaves as long as or exceeding stems , rigid ; leaf sheath yellowish or grey , wide , margin deeply concave ; leaf blade 15-20 x 0 . 4-0 . 5 cm , with brown dots and stripes , linear , flat or slightly keeled , apex acute , margins smooth , rough . Inflorescences 4-17 cm , simple to compound anthelodium ; spikelets in dense clusters , 5-15 per cluster , yellowish brown to dark reddish brown , slightly flattened , spreading at almost right angles ; rachilla 4-angled , straight , compressed , reddish brown ; glumes cymbiform , yellowish brown , ovate , apex obtuse , yellow . Fruit nutlet , dark brown to black , obovoid , trigonous , minutely papilose . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
