Leaves ± equaling the culms ; leaf sheaths rigid , distictly brownish veined , disintegrating into fibres with age , mouth margin straight ; leaf blade 1 mm wide , stiff , linear , greyish green , semi-circular in transverse section , slightly scabrid on the margins , apex flat , blunt or acute . Inflorescences capitate with 5 to more than 20 spikelets ; spikelets dark brown , ovoid , with scarious margins , compressed ; glumes 14-24 , pale brown , concave , ovate , margins scarious .
