Cyperus aucheri Jaub. & Spach

This species is native to Sahara, extending to Pakistan. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 24 species of Cyperus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Caespitose perennial herb ; 15-35(-80) cm tall with short rhizome and tillers or short stolons ; roots tomentose , often with grains of sand adhering . Stems (culms) almost terete , glabrous , grey-green . Leaves grey-green , up to or shorter than culms , weak and spreading ; leaf sheaths greyish green to yellowish green , rigid , not glossy , disintegrating into fibres , mouth margin concave ; leaf blade linear , channelled , rather rigid , flexuous , flat or involute , margins scabrous , apex acute , grey-green , smooth or slightly scabrous . Inflorescences an anthelodium (a loose cluster of spikes) , sometimes reduced to a single cluster of spikes ; spikelets 1-10 , brownish green , ovoid , copressed , with 14-c . 50 closely imbricating glumes ; glumes cymbiform , yellowish brown , concave , ovate , margins scarious . Fruit nutlet , dark brown , obovoid , surface finely reticulate and papillose . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
