Leaves shorter than stems ; leaf sheaths 1–7 cm long , greyish , sometimes reddish , scarious ; leaf blade linear , flat , ± keeled , sometimes folded , grooved along midrib , margins smooth , apex acute . Inflorescences of a single dense head , yellowish to dark brown or blackish , small , globose or ovoid ; spikelets 2 mm , lanceolate , 1-flowered ; glumes 2 , ovate , apex acuminate , mucronate , keeled , yellow-green . Fruits nut , compressed , obovoid , beaked , yellowish , black when mature , minutely papillose . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
