Erect , tufted perennial herb ; up to 30 cm tall with a bulbous culm-base , covered with remains of old leaf sheaths . Stems (culms) many , crowded , triangular , glabrous . Leaves many , flat and rather thick , grey-green , as long as the culms ; leaf sheath brownish ; leaf blade linear , apex acute , c . scabrid on margins . Inflorescences a solitary greenish white or densely arranged spikelets in an ovoid head , usually composed of 3–6 sessile congested spikes ; spikelets 3–6-flowered , lanceolate , greenish , usually densely clustered ; rhachilla winged ; glumes pale grey-green , ovate or broadly elliptic , acute , strongly concave . Fruit nutlet , 1 . 2–1 . 4 mm long , triangular , brown with dark brown angles , obovoid , papillose . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
