Tufted perennial herb ; up to 40 cm long with small roots . Stems (culms) grey-green , smooth . Leaves grey-green as long as and longer than stems ; leaf sheath brown to greenish brown , loose ; leaf blade 1-2 mm wide , linear , margins inrolled , apex acute , margin scabrid . Inflorescences a simple anthela with grey-green spikelets ; spikelets linear-lanceolate , compressed ; glumes whitish to grey-green , elliptic , acuminate with straight or recurved mucro , margins hyaline .
