Erect perennial herb ; up to 50 cm long with rhizomes and numerous reddish brown roots . Stems (culms) clustered , trigonous , glabrous . Leaves 3–6 , V-shaped , as long as or exceeding the inflorescence ; leaf blade linear , flat , scabrid on margins . Inflorescences a compound anthela ; spikelets 7–14 , flattened , in dense clusters , greyish green , lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate , with 8-30 flowers ; glumes brownish , with a keeled green centre , broadly ovate , with hyaline margins , apex obtuse , glabrous . Fruits nutlet , ca . 2 mm , dark brown to black , obovoid , sessile , apex obtuse , apiculate . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
