Tufted annual , up to15 cm with a minute root system . Stems (culms) solitary or few , tufted , triangular , smooth . Leaves shorter than stems , not reaching to the inflorescence , soft and curling ; leaf sheath greenish brown ; leaf blade linear , flat , slightly scabrid to glabrous , acuminate . Inflorescence a simple anthela , primary branches 1-7 ; spikelets in dense spikes , sessile and at the end of primary branches , crowded , linear , flattened , squarrose with straight glume-apices ; glumes yellowish to reddish brown , elliptic . Fruits nutlet dark grey-brown , narrowly oblong to obovoid , triangular , minutely papillose . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
