Erect , tufted perennial sedge , up to 50 cm forming clumps with short rhizome . Stems compressed , smooth or scabrid or with sparse obtuse teeth , flattened and tufted at the base . Leaves narrow ; leaf sheath membranous , greyish to brownish . Inflorescence simple or head-like , with 1-10 (rarely to 25) solitary spikelets , brown or greyish ; spikelets lanceolate , grey rust coloured ; glumes reddish brown , paler at apex , ovate . Fruits nutlet straw-coloured , obovoid-lenticular , almost smooth . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
