Glumes often flushed with a pink , the lower 7-to 9-veined ; upper 5-to 7-veined ; fertile lemma hairy on the back in 3 dense patches , one along the midvein and one along each margin ; awns ciliate ; third lemma well developed (but barren) , usually accompanied by a vestigial fourth lemma .
