Panicle open , triangular in outline with divaricate branches , often simple above . Spikelets linear , dark olive-green 5- to 16-flowered , the florets spreading and imparting a conspicuously serrate outline , shedding their lemmas from below upwards , the paleas persistent on the tough rhachilla ; glumes very small , lanceolate ; palea keels scabridulous .
