Stipagrostis sokotrana (Vierh.) De Winter

This species is native to Arabian Peninsula and Socotra. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 12 species of Stipagrostis found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Densely tufted perennial herb ; 6-30 cm long . Stems (culms) woody , much-branched at the base ; internodes glabrous . Inflorescences panicle , contracted ; glumes unequal , thinly hairy on the flanks , coarsely scabrid on the prominent veins , the lower narrowly lanceolate , 5- to 9-veined , 8 . 5-14 mm long , the upper narrowly lanceolate-acuminate , 3- to 5-veined , 18 . 5-26 mm long ; lemma including the bearded callus , 5-6 . 5 mm long , smooth ; column glabrous 8 . 5-13 mm long ; central awn 5 . 5-7 cm long , plumose in the upper half , glabrous below except for a short pubescence extending upwards for ± 2 mm from the junction of the awns , the tip not excurrent and the feather obtuse in outline ; lateral awn 2-2 . 8 cm long , glabrous . Fruits caryopsis with adherent pericarp ; linear . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
