Tripidium ravennae (L.) H.Scholz

This species is native to Mediterranean, extending to Central Asia and Myanmar, Sahara, eastwards to Arabian Peninsula; introduced elsewhere. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one known species of Tripidium occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial herb ; up to 1-4 . 5 m tall . Stems (culms) erect , stiff ; culm-internodes solid . Leaves with leaf-sheaths hirsute ; leaf-blades flat , up to 20 mm wide or narrower with thickened midrib . Inflorescences panicle , 25-70 cm long , with branches tipped by a raceme ; racemes 1 . 5-3 cm long , much shorter than the supporting branches ; spikelets slightly heteromorphous , 3-4 mm long , the callus bearded with whitish or greyish hairs scarcely as long as the spikelet ; glumes membranous , those of the sessile spikelet glabrous , those of the pedicelled spikelet sparsely to moderately hairy on the back ; upper lemmas with an awn 2 . 5-10 mm long and well exserted from the tips of the glumes .
