Barleria argentea Balf.f.

This species is native to NE & E Tropical Africa, N Socotra, extending to SW & S Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 8 species of Barleria found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Shrublet ; up to 30 cm high , usually much branched from the base . Stems unarmed , grey-green , adpressed pubescent with spreading medifixed and ± glandular hairs . Leaves opposite , 15–40 × 9–20 mm , green above , silvery-green below , oblong-lanceolate to ovate , apex obtuse , base rounded to slightly cuneate , margins entire , pubescent with sparse glandular hairs more so on the margins and nerves , especially on younger leaves ; petiole 1–2 mm . Inflorescences 1–3 , axillary ; pedicel 2–3 mm ; bracteoles foliaceous . Flowers blue to violet , falling soon ; calyx 4-lobed , lobes lanceolate to triangular , outer lobes ± 7 mm , inner smaller to 5 mm , glandular and pubescent ; corolla blue to violet , falling soon , tubular , 5-lobed , tube 10–14 mm , lobes 3–4 mm , the anterior lobe largest ; stamens 2 fertile . Fruit capsule , 13–14 mm , with an apical beak ± 2 mm , pubescent , 2-seeded . Seeds woolly . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
