Barleria candida Nees

This species is native to Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 8 species of Barleria found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Subshrub ; up to 40 cm high . Stems simply or much branched , greyish or whitish , densely adpressed pubescent . Leaves opposite , (3–)5–10 × 3–6 mm , obovate to broadly ovate , apex mucronate or with an apical spine (sometimes apex without spine or emarginate ) , base tapering into a short petiole 1–2 mm , margins entire , white pubescent ; axillary spines 10–30 mm , white , lateral spines ± absent . Inflorescences solitary , axillary on lateral branches . Flowers white (probably nocturnal) ; calyx scarious when mature , tinged pink when young , 4-lobed , outer lobes 10–15 × 5–6 mm , lanceolate , mucronate , pubescent , midrib prominent ; inner lobes 9–10 mm ; corolla tubular , 6–7 mm , 5-lobed ; lobes unequal , the anterior lobe largest ; stamens 2 . Fruit capsule , 10–11 mm , ovoid , shortly beaked above , glabrous , 4-seeded . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
