Barleria hochstetteri Nees

This species is native to Sahara, extending to Arabian Peninsula and N Kenya, S Pakistan, eastwards to NW India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 8 species of Barleria found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Woody shrublet ; up to 40-50 cm tall , usually much branched . Stems unarmed , grey-green , with opposite lateral shoots , sometimes ending with sharp tips , densely pubescent with spreading medifixed or ± glandular hairs . Leaves opposite , 8–20 × 3–5 mm , grey-green , lanceolate to narrow lanceolate to oblanceolate , apex obtuse to rounded or apiculate , base tapering into a short petiole 1–2 mm , margins entire , ± glabrous to white pubescent with adpressed medifixed hairs and glandular and eglandular hairs . Inflorescences solitary to 2 , borne on stalks in the leaf axils ; bracteoles foliaceous . Flowers white to pale violet , with dark purple spots in throat ; calyx 5-lobed , with outer lobes lanceolate to narrowly ovate , bifid , ± 5 mm , glandular and pubescent ; corolla tubular , tube ± 7 mm , 5-lobed , lobes 8–10 mm , the anterior lobe largest ; stamens 2 fertile .
