Dicliptera paniculata (Forssk.) I.Darbysh.

This species is native to Africa, Arabian Peninsula, Indian Subcontinent, extending eastwards to S China, Indo-China and Philippines. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is one species of Dicliptera occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Woody-based annual herb ; up to 1 m tall , with a short taproot . Stems erect to straggling , branched , angular , glabrous to pubescent ; young stems often with short eglandular and capitate glandular hairs . Leaves opposite , 8–12 × 3–4 mm , decreasing in size upwards , oblong-lanceolate to narrowly elliptic , apex acute , base rounded to attenuate , margins entire , ± pubescent ; petiole 1–2 mm . Inflorescences in lax axillary paniculate cymes ; bracts 2 , unequal , linear- lanceolate , ± 10 mm , subtending 2 flowers ; bracteoles 2 , subtending the flower , 4–5 mm , lanceolate . Flowers pale purple to pinkish ; calyx 3–4 mm , lobes linear with a narrow hyaline margins ; corolla pale purple to pinkish , 2-lipped , tube ± 5 mm , twisted ; lower lip ± 7 mm , with 3 teeth at the apex ; upper lip with a rounded tip , reflexed at maturity ; stamens 2 ; anthers 2-celled with one cell above the other ; ovary largely glabrous .
