Justicia odora (Forssk.) Lam.

This species is native to Ethiopia, extending to S Africa and Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 3 species of Justicia found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

A woody-based perennial herb ; up to 10-30 cm high , somewhat aromatic (aromatic when dry) . Stems erect to ascending ; young stems green , glabrous to fairly densely pubescent with 0 . 1–0 . 5 mm long erect hairs , gradually becoming greyish with bark peeling in long stripes . Leaves opposite , often appearing whorled , 5–20 × 4–12 mm , obovate to oblong-elliptic , apex obtuse , acuminate to emarginate , base rounded to cuneate , margins entire , glabrous to pubescent ; petiole 2–5 mm . Inflorescences usually in pairs arising at the leaf nodes ; bracts and bracteoles ± 1 mm . Flowers bright yellow ; calyx ± 3 mm , 5-lobed , lobes lanceolate , sparsely to pubescent ; corolla 2-lipped , yellow , often with reddish veins ; lower lip ± 8 mm , 3-lobed ; upper lip ± 7 mm , oblong , notched apically , hooded ; stamens 2 ; anthers displaced , the lower with a basal appendage .
