Meiosperma debile (Forssk.) I.Darbysh. & E.A.Tripp

This species is native to Eritrea, extending to S Africa, Arabian Peninsula, eastwards to India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is one species of Monechma occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual or perennial herb ; up to 25 cm high , with a woody rootstock , crisped pubescent . Stems erect to decumbent , branched from the base . Leaves opposite , 15–40 × 7–11 mm , broadly lanceolate to elliptic , apex acute to obtuse , base tapering into a short petiole ± 10 mm , margins entire , pubescent . Inflorescences in short axillary and terminal congested spike-like ; bracts 5–12 mm , suborbicular to broadly ovate , sessile , margins lanate . Flowers reddish-purple with purple markings on lower lip ; calyx 5-lobed , lobes ± 2 mm , narrow triangular , green , densely pubescent ; corolla 2-lipped , reddish-purple with purple markings on lower lip , ± 10 mm ; tube ± 6 mm ; upper lip ± 5 mm ; lower lip ± 5 mm ; stamens 2 ; anthers displaced , the lower with a basal appendage . Fruit capsule , 5–6 mm , ellipsoid , 2-seeded . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
