Neuracanthus spinosus Deflers

This species is native to S Arabian Peninsula (S Oman & Yemen). (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 species of Neuracanthus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Subshrub or shrub ; up to 17-50 cm high , spreading up to 1 m long . Stems decumbent or ascending , branching from the base , greyish-white , white tomentose . Leaves opposite , 15–30 × 10–15 mm , narrow ovate to oblanceolate , margins entire , ± sinuate , apex obtuse , base tapering into the petiole to 20 mm long , dull green above , grey-green beneath , white tomentose when young , glabrescent with age . Inflorescences in axillary clusters ; spiny inflorescences axes absent ; bracts white lanate when young , 5–6 × 2–4 mm , lanceolate . Flowers pale blue to purple , with a white centre , funnel-shaped ; calyx deeply divided into 2 lobes , both enlarging in fruit , 6–7 mm , lanceolate with a spiny apex ; corolla pale blue to purple , white in centre , funnel-shaped , ± 10 mm , hairy outside . Fruit capsule , 10–11 mm , ovoid , hairy . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
