Ruellia linearibracteolata Lindau

This species is native to NE Tropical Africa, extending to Kenya, S Arabian Peninsula and S Pakistan. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 6 species of Ruellia found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Sub-shrub or perennial herb ; up to 30 cm tall . Stems branching at the base , angled , glandular-pubescent ; old stems pale grey . Leaves 15–30 × 3–4 mm , linear-lanceolate , apex acute , base tapering into the petiole , margins entire , with prominent pale veins , densely ciliate-pubescent . Inflorescences solitary in the axils of leaves , subsessile ; bracts absent ; bracteoles 16–18 mm , linear-oblanceolate , pubescent . Flowers short-lived , pale purple , fragrant ; calyx lobes linear , 6–8 mm , strigose ; corolla pale purple , pubescent without , tubular ; tube ± 12 mm , expanded and 5-lobed above , lobes 8–10 mm , rounded , spreading ; stamens 4 , included ; anthers parallel ; style persisting in mature capsule . Fruit capsule , 15–17 mm , clavate , fairly densely pubescent , 8-seeded . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
