This species is native to Macaronesia, Mediterranean, extending to Sahara and Arabian Peninsula; introduced and sometimes an invasive weed in other parts of the world. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one species of Mesembryanthemum occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Leaves opposite or subopposite , 10–20 x 2–4 mm , sessile , almost cylindrical or slightly channelled , linear , obtuse at apex , slightly narrowed toward base , fleshy . Inflorescences subsessile or short-pedicellate and solitary in axil , sessile or petiolate , equal , green at first and purple at maturity ; bracts absent . Flowers white or cream , 4-5(-10) mm in diameter ; calyx with linear , fleshy lobes ; petaloid staminodes more than 20 , white or cream , shorter than the calyx-lobes . Fruit capsule , 5–8 mm , obovoid , finely papillate . Seeds 0 . 5-0 . 6 mm , triangular or semicircular , somewhat compressed , whitish to brownish-red , smooth to minutely tuberculate . (Ref .
