Sesuvium portulacastrum (L.) L.

This species is native to Tropics & Subtropics; introduced and cultivated elsewhere. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 known species of Sesuvium found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial herb ; all parts glabrous . Stems prostrate to suberect , thick , smooth , rooting at nodes . Leaves opposite , 10–65 x 1–14 mm , glossy , green , oblanceolate , narrowing into petiole , base with scarious margins clasping stem and joined to that of opposite leaf , tip rounded , succulent with convex lower surface , smooth , fleshy . Inflorescences in the leaf axils , pedicels 3–15 mm long , thicker near tip . Flowers pink or purple , tiny , 0 . 5 cm ; perianth 7–12 mm long , tepals c . 3 times as long as tube , triangular , unequal , acute with subapical apiculus , pink , red or purplish inside ; stamens many , free ; ovary (2–)3(–4)-celled . Fruit capsule , round . Seeds c . 1 . 6 mm long , black , smooth . (Ref . POWO ; 2023) .
