Zaleya pentandra (L.) C.Jeffery

This species is native to Africa, extending to Palestine and Arabian Peninsula, Pakistan, eastwards to India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is one known species of Zaleya occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual or perennial herb ; up to 30 cm high . Stems prostrate to decumbent , much branched , somewhat succulent , glabrous to minutely papillose . Leaves opposite , 10–25×8–17 mm , ovate to elliptic , apex obtuse ; petiole expanding at the base , forming scarious wings . Inflorescences in axillary clusters , sessile or subsessile . Flowers pale green to purple ; calyx c . 2 mm , lobes with white hyaline margins ; petals absent ; stamens 5 ; ovary truncate , with a shallow apical depression . Fruit capsule , 1 . 5–2mm , globose , depressed above , reddish-brown , dehiscing bya 2-valved lid , 4-seeded . Seeds c . 1 . 7 mm diameter , black , irregularly ribbed . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
