Agriophyllum minus Fisch. & C.A.Mey. ex Fenzl

This species is native to Iraq, extending to Arabian Peninsula, eastwards to N Xinjiang. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one known species of Agriophyllum occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Spiny annual herb ; up to 15-40 cm high . Stems erect , woody at base , branched , slender , ribbed , spiny , rigid , sparsely pubescent . Leaves 15–25 x 2–3 mm , lanceolate to linear-lanceolate , apex acute and somewhat spinescent , base attenuating into a short petiole , venation of leaves parallel (appearing as a grass leaf) . Inflorescences sessile , in dense clusters , in the axils of small spinescent bracts ; bracts ovate , inflexed in fruit , apex acuminate , mucronate . Flowers small ; perianth scarious , included in the bracts ; stamens 5 , exserted ; style persistent with 2 elongated wings at the apex . Fruit 4–5 mm , compressed , with 3-parted beak , the margin broadly winged . Seeds 2 x 1 mm , oval . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
