Perennial herb ; up to 20-50 cm tall . Stems erect or ascending , much branched , apical part quadrangular , basal part cylindric , hairy at apex and nodes . Leaves 1-6 x 0 . 5-2 mm , often purplish , oblong , oblong-ovate , or spatulate , hairy when young , glabrescent , base acuminate , margin undulate , apex acute or obtuse , mith a mucro ; petiole slightly hairy . Inflorescences in rounded head of 2-5 , terminal or axillary , 5-10 mm , sessile ; bracts and bracteols ovate-lanceolate . Flowers small , yellowish green ; tepals white , ovate-oblong ; stamens 5 , all bearing anthers ; ovary glabrous . Fruit undeveloped . (Ref . Miller & Cope ; 1996) .
