A dense succulent subshrub ; up to 1-2 m tall , with a woody base , forming large clump-like mounds . Stems jointed , apparently leafless , ascending to decumbent , glaucous , branches sometimes rooting at the nodes on touchingthe ground and becoming prostrate ; young stems succulent and segmented , yellow , reddish or green ; old stems woody , grey-green . Leaves reduced to small lobes , opposite and connate below , inconspicuous . Inflorescences in 3-flowered clusters in the leaf axils , up to 6 cm , enclosed by bracts . Flowers minute , hardly visible , the central bisexual , laterals often unisexual male ; stamens 2 , exserted and the yellow stamens visible when plant in flower . Fruit pericarp , membranous , spongy . Seeds ± 1 mm , black , glossy , papillose , verrucose on back . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
