Caroxylon spinescens (Moq.) Akhani & Roalson

This species is native to SE Egypt, extending to NE Tropical Africa and Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 4 species of Caroxylon found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Rigid spiny shrub ; up to 50 cm tall . Stems with divaricate branching , old stems and branches strongly spinescent ; young shoots bud-like , minute , formed of overlapping leaves . Leaves ±2 mm , ovate , somewhat fleshy , rounded at the tip , scarious on the margins ; young leaves covered with medifixed hairs . Inflorescences solitary , 1 . 5-2 . 5 mm in diameter ; bracts leaf-like . Flowers bisexual ; perianth segments 5 , 1 . 5–2 . 5 mm . Fruit ± 4 mm (including the wings) , wings white-pink . (Ref .
