Celosia trigyna L.

This species is native to Tropical & S Africa, extending to Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 species of Celosia found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Erect annual herb ; up to 20 cm high . Stems erect , scarcely branched , green to reddish , glabrous to sparsely pubescent . Leaves alternate , 15–30 x 7–18 mm , ovate to ovate-lanceolate , glabrous to sparsely pubescent ; petiole up to 10 mm ; leaves falling at the time of fruiting . Inflorescences in terminal and axillary cylindrical spikes ; bracts scarious . Flowers white to pale pink ; perianth 1 . 5–3 mm , scarious , 2 or more veined . Fruit capsule , ± 2 mm . Seeds ± 0 . 75 mm in diameter , compressed , black , shining . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
