Chenopodiastrum murale (L.) S.Fuentes, Uotila & Borsch

This species is native to Macaronesia, Europe, Mediterranean, extending to NE Tropical Africa and Sri Lanka. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one species of Chenopodiastrum occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Erect annual herb ; up to 30-60 cm tall . Stems erect , sparsely branched , angular , ridged , dark-green , rarely red-tinged , glabrous . Leaves alternate , 7–32 x 4–19 mm , rhombic to rhombic-ovate to ovate , apex acute or obtuse , base tapering into a slender petiole , margins irregularly and coarsely dentate ; petioles 5–20 mm . Inflorescences in loose or compact clusters either terminally or in leaf axils . Flowers tiny , green or greenish-yellow ; perianth segments 5 , connate to a third of their length ; keeled , with narrow membranous margins ; stamens 5 . Fruit pericarp , membranous , globose , adhering to the seed . Seeds 1 . 2–1 . 5 mm in diameter , black , shiny , keeled along the margin . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .

Up
