Chenopodium album L.

This species is native to Temperate regions, extending to Indian Subcontinent; introduced world wide. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 species of Chenopodium found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual herb ; up to 20 cm high , grey-farinose . Stems erect to ascending , much branched , ridged or angled , mealy-white to grey-farinose , or tinged red . Leaves variable in shape and size , white-mealy on the undersurface ; basal leaves 10–80 x 10–50 mm , deltoid to lanceolate ; upper leaves lanceolate to ovate , apex acute or obtuse , margins irregularly dentate or sometimes entire , sinuate ; petioles 10–30 mm . Inflorescences almost leafless , in dense , paniculate , terminal and axillary clusters , mealy . Flowers small ; perianth segments 5 , free to the base , keeled , with membranous margins ; stamens 5 . Fruit pericarp , membranous , globose . Seeds 1 . 2-1 . 6 mm in diameter , horizontal , black , glossy , slightly keeled along the margin . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
