Cornulaca monacantha Delile

This species is native to Sahara, extending to Middle East, Arabia and W & SW Pakistan. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 species of Cornulaca found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Shrub ; up to 50(-80) cm tall . Stems erect to spreading , branching from the base , woody below , grey ; old stems with cracking bark . Leaves alternate , 3–10 mm , subulate to triangular , bluish-green , spine-tipped . Inflorescences 1–8 in glomerules , surrounded by tufts of white hairs , glomerules subtended by a bract and 2 bracteoles ; bract ± 8 mm , spinescent ; bracteoles shorter than the bract . Flowers bisexual , small , orange-brown ; perianth segments 5 , 2–3 mm , indurate and fused in fruit ; stamens 5 , filaments fused at the base . Fruit perianth , pyriform , 3-4 mm . Seeds 1 . 25 mm in diameter , rounded-compressed , yellow . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
