A woody branched shrublet ; up to 15-50(-60) cm tall . Stems erect to spreading , richly branched , often reddish-green , glabrous ; old stems woody at the base and leafless . Leaves alternate , 5–15mm , succulent , subglobose to pyriform , perfoliate , green or reddish , often bright red , surround the stem giving the appearance of swollen nodes . Inflorescences in clusters between the stem joints , connate to the bract . Flowers minute , fleshy , bisexual or female , red ; perianth segments 3 ; stamens 1–2 ; anthers yellow . Fruit pericarp , membranous , 1-seeded . Seeds tiny , 0 . 8 mm long . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
