Haloxylon salicornicum (Moq.) Bunge ex Boiss.

This species is native to N Africa, extending eastwards to Middle East, Arabia and Pakistan. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 species of Haloxylon found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Much-branched shrub or subshrub ; up to 1 m tall . Stems and branches spreading , jointed , fleshy when young , becoming woody when older . Leaves opposite , reduced , sometimes enlarged , red , triangular , fused below , margins membranous , woolly in the axils . Inflorescences in dense axillary spikes ; bracteoles 2 , ovate . Flowers bisexual or male ; perianth segments 5 , membranous ; stamens 5 , filament fused below . Fruit perianth with conspicuous pink or yellow-brown membranous wings ; wings 6–8 mm , unequal , ovate to orbicular , overlapping . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
