Searsia aucheri (Boiss.) Moffett

This species is native to Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 4 species of Searsia found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Dioecious . Scrambling shrub to a small tree ; up to 3 m tall , often forming large clumps . Stems much branched , grey ; bark brown with a whitish bloom , glabrescent . Leaves alternate , 3-foliolate ; leaflets sessile , 10-20 x 7-10 mm , obovate in out-line , deeply to shallowly 3-lobed in the upper part , apex of lobes obtuse , base long cuneate , margin entire , grey-green , densely white-pubescent ; petiole 10-15 mm , somewhat winged , pubescent . Inflorescences in axillary and terminal thyrsoid panicles up to 5 cm long ; pedicel ± 1 mm , pubescent ; bracts minute , triangular , white-pubescent . Flowers c . ± 1 mm across ; calyx 5-lobed , lobes ± 0 . 5 mm , pubescent ; petals ± 1 mm , oblong-ovate , cream . Male flowers: stamens 5 , about the same length as the corolla ; Female flowers: with 5 rudimentary stamens ; ovary globose , 1-celled . Fruit drupe , 3-4 mm in diameter , subglobose , red and glossy at maturity , glabrous , 1-seeded . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 2) .

An extract of red pigment used to dye cotton wool, white clothes and date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) leaves particularly used in handicrafts. Both leaves and fruit are edible, eaten by people as well as animals. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).
