Searsia gallagheri (Ghaz.) Moffett

This species is native to Arabian Peninsula (Oman). (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 4 species of Searsia found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Stems and branches ± prostrate , spreading ; bark in older stems grey-white , in younger stems and new shoots red-brown , young branches covered with white appressed hairs , and some spreading hairs . Leaves alternate , 3-foliolate , densely appressed-hairy , intersperesed with simple brown hairs and glandular hairs ; leaflets sessile , 10-27 x 5-17 mm , obovate , margins entire , apex rounded to shallowly 3-lobed at the apex , base cuneate to attenuate , green above , pale green beneath , appressed pubescent on both surfaces . Inflorescences in axillary and terminal thyrsoid panicles up to 4 cm long ; bracts 0 . 5-1 mm , lanceolate ; pedicel 4-6 mm , pubescent . Flowers yellow to cream , ± 2 mm across ; calyx 5-lobed , lobes 0 . 75-1 . 0 mm , triangular , appressed pubescent ; petals 1 . 5-2 mm , oblong-ovate , pale yellow to cream ; disk basal to ovary , ± 2 mm across , flat , shallowly 10-lobed at the margins . As a red dye for white clothes. Also, the leaves crushed and rubbed inside the goat’s leather water bag to make the leather smooth and shine (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).
