Coriandrum sativum L.

This species is native to E Mediterranean, extending to Pakistan; introduced and cultivated worldwide. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one known species of Coriandrum occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

An erect feathery aromatic annual herb ; up to 70 cm high , with a slender taproot and a strong sweet-musky smell . Stems solid , ridged with few to many ascending branches from base upwards . Leaves lower leaves 1-2-pinnate , segments ; upper leaves finely divided into a linear to narrowly linear segments . Inflorescences borne in small umbels , with 3–6(–10) rays . Flowers bisexual , asymmetrical ; petals white to pinkish-white ; calyx teeth narrowly triangular and quite conspicuous ; styles long and slender . Fruits schizocarp , dry , small , round , slightly longer than broad , yellowish brown . Seeds concave on the inner face . (Ref . POWO ; 2023) .
