Cuminum cyminum L.

This species is native to Iraq, extending eastwards to Afghanistan; introduced and cultivated worldwide. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one known species of Cuminum occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Erect annual herb ; up to 15-20(-30) cm high . Stems erect , slender , glabrous , grey or dark green , branched , with ascending branches from near base upwards . Leaves pinnate or bipinnate , long with thread-like leafles . Inflorescences borne in terminal umbels , many , leaf-opposed , 3-6-rayed . Flowers hermaphrodite , small , white or pink . Fruit schizocap , ovoid , rigid , divergent , often reddish , with a single seed . Seeds oblong , longitudinally ridged , yellow-brown . (Ref . POWO ; 2023) .
