Foeniculum vulgare Mill.

This species is native to Mediterranean, extending to Ethiopia and W Nepal; cultivated and naturalized in many regions. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is one species of Foeniculum occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Robust perennial herb ; up to 2 m tall , glabrous , somewhat glaucous . Stems erect , sparingly to considerably branched , solid , tough , round , wiry , terete , green , finely striate . Leaves up to 50 cm long , 3–5-pinnate ; leaflets narrowly linear to capillary , becoming reduced upwards towards the inflorescence and finally occurring only as sheathing bases with 0–few linear lobes ; petiole c . 2–5 cm long . Inflorescences umbels terminal and lateral , on mostly 2 . 5–14 cm peduncles ; rays (3–)10–25(–30) , glabrous , usually unequal , 2–6(–10) cm ; bracts and bracteoles 0 (rarely few) . Flowers yellow ; calyx teeth obsolete ; petals ± 1 mm , glabrous , bright yellow . Fruit schizocarp , 4–8 mm long , dry , oblong-ovoid , slightly laterally compressed , very distinctly glaucous-grey especially when immature . (Ref . POWO ; 2023) .
