Pimpinella anisum L.

This species is native to E Mediterranean region and SW Asia; introduced and cultivated elsewhere. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 3 species of Pimpinella found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Robust annual herb ; up to 18–75 cm high , with strong aromatic odor . Stems erect , terete , striate or sulcate . Leaves green , subglabrous or sparsely and minutely puberulent ; basal leaves undivided or shortly trilobed , ovate-rotund to cuneate-obovate in outline , coarsely and irregularly toothed , cuneate at base ; upper leaves sessile , pinnate or bipinnate , with narrow ultimate segments , sheathing . Inflorescences Partial umbels 10–20-flowered ; peduncles 2–8 cm , with 10–20 finally ± incurved , subequal , minutely downy 1−3 . 5 cm rays . Flowers white , ± 1 . 5 mm in diameter ; petals glabrous , not radiate . Fruit 3–4 mm long , flask-shaped , brownish when ripe , covered with short , appressed grey pubescence . (Ref . POWO ; 2023) .
