Pycnocycla aucheriana Decne. ex Boiss.

This species is native to E Arabian Peninsula, extending northwards to SE Iran to S Pakistan. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 5 known species of Pycnocycla found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

An erect shrub ; up to 60 cm tall , forming larg clumps , glabrous to sparsely pubescent . Stems and branches intricate , grey-green , ending in spines . Leaves grey-green , stiff , deeply dissected with 3-5 spiny segments and a central groove at the base of the plan ; petiole up to 5 cm , sheathing and pubescent at the base . Inflorescences in congested terminal umbles , 15-20 mm in diameter , with the outer flowers male and the inner hermaphrodite ; rays many ; bracts 5-7 , 2-3 cm long , spine-like ; bracteoles 4-5 , spine-like , densely pubescent . Flowers pale pink ; calyx densely pubescent ; petals ± 1 mm , bilobed above ; ovary pilose ; styles 2 , distinct , slender , 4-5 mm long . Fruit ± 5 mm , cylindrical to ellipsoid , pilose . (Ref .
