Cascabela thevetia (L.) Lippold

This species is native to Mexico, extending southwards to S Tropical America; cultivated widely as an ornamental. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is one known species of Cascabela found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Evergreen shrub or small tree , with white latex . Leaves alternate , 5–15 x 0 . 5–1 cm , subsessile , glossy , green , linear-lanceolate , apex acute . Inflorescences in few-flowered terminal clusters . Flowers bright yellow ; calyx-lobes c . 8 mm long ; corolla infundibuliform , c . 30 x 15 mm ; stamens included . Fruit drupe , c . 2 x 3 . 5 cm , obtriangular , apiculate , deep red-black ; mesocarp fleshy . Seeds 2(–4) , c . 1 cm long . (Ref . POWO ; 2023) .
