Catharanthus roseus (L.) G.Don

This species is native to E & S Madagascar; cultivated widely as an ornamental and medicinal plant. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is one known species of Catharanthus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Evergreen perennial herb or subshrub ; up to 1 m tall , with white latex . Stems glabrous or pubescent . Leaves opposite , decussate , 4−9 × 1 . 5−3 . 5 cm , leathery , dark green , obovate , apex emarginate to obtuse , pubescent or glabrous ; petiole 1–1 . 8 cm long . Inflorescences arranged in opposite pairs . Flowers white , pink or purple with a dark centre ; corolla tubular , lobes spreading ; stamens included ; anthers 2 . 3–3 mm long , subsessile ; style 16–27 mm long . Fruit follicles , c . 2–4 cm long , narrow , cylindrical , green . Seeds numerous , grooved , black . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
