Densely clump-forming succulent perennial herb ; up to 30(-40) cm high . Stems erect , branching from the base , 4-angled in cross-section , grey-green to purple-brown , with crenate margins . Leaves absent , rudiments ovate-deltoid . Inflorescences in apical umbels , with 30–40 flowers ; pedicels 1 . 5–3 mm . Flowers with a carrion-like smell , dark purple-red ; calyx 5-lobed almost to base , lobes 2−3 mm , triangular ; corolla dark purple-red , campanulate , 7–10 mm across , 5-lobed ; lobes ovate , without clavate hairs at the tips ; gynostegium shortly stipitate , 1 . 5–2 mm long ; corona in 2 series , dark reddish-purple ; outer corona lobes erect , somewhat horn-shaped ; inner lobes incumbent on the anthers ; pollinia solitary in each anther locule , ascending . Fruit follicles , 6–9 cm , paired , erect , ovoid , acute , glabrous . Seeds with a tuft of white hairs at the tip . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
