Shrub ; up to 1(-3) m tall , with clear yellowish-green latex . Stems erect , much branched , slender , often leafless , smooth , green , terete , up to 1 cm in diameter , ending in points . Leaves linear- lanceolate , soon falling , leaving the stems naked . Inflorescences borne at the stem nodes ; pedicels 2−2 . 5 mm , tomentose . Flowers numerous , small , ± 6 mm across , yellow-green , fragrant at dusk ; calyx 5-lobed almost to base ; lobes 2−2 . 5 mm , oblong , yellow-green with pale yellow margins , sometimes revolute , pubescent inside and outside ; corona white ; lobes strap-shaped , alternating with the corolla lobes , incumbent over the staminal column . Fruit follicles , 9−13 cm , long narrow , tapering towards the apex , glabrous . Seeds have long hairs . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .

In Omani studies: Pickering & Patzelt (2008) wrote that: "Buds are edible and much appreciated. Dried hair from the seeds is used for kindling. Small mammals shelter under this plant in the day". (Ref. Field Guide to the Wild Plants of Oman; 2008). In addition, Ghazanfar (2015) mentioned that: "An infusion made from branches and stems has been used as a diuretic in traditional medicine. Dried hair tufts of seeds were used by Bedouins for tinder and may be the reason for its specific epithet “pyrotechnica”. Browsed by goats and camels (Ref. Flora of Oman; vol.3).
