Stems decumbent , simple or with few branches , 4-angled with soft conical spines , glabrous , green to grey-green marked with dark green to purplish-green markings . Leaves absent . Inflorescences 1−5 , near or at the tips of branches ; pedicels 2−4 mm , ascending to erect . Flowers reddish-brown or yellow suffused with brown ; calyx 5-lobed almost to base , lobes 3−4 mm , lanceolate , acute ; corolla 5-lobed to base ; lobes erect to spreading , 9−10 mm , narrowly lanceolate , margin strongly revolute and touching each other , reddish-brown or yellow suffused with brown , white puberulous within or sparsely puberulous near the base ; corona ± 2 mm long , yellow , in two series ; outer lobes forming a pouch , with apex of lobes spreading and forming a truncate to emarginate spur below the inner corona lobes ; inner lobes flattened , emarginate , adpressed to backs of anthers and rarely exceeding ; staminal column yellow ; pollinia ovoid .
