Oxystelma esculentum (L.f.) Sm.

This species is native to Egypt, extending to NE Tanzania, SW Yemen, NE Oman, Sinai, eastwards to S China and W Malesia, N Australia. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is one species of Oxystelma occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Stems much-branched , numerous , slender , twinning ; young shoots tomentose , with soft white hairs , becoming glabrous . Leaves opposite , deciduous ; leaf lamina 3–9 × 0 . 2–0 . 7 cm , thin , linear-lanceolate , apex acute , base rounded or cuneate , pale green , glabrous ; veins conspicuous beneath , sparsely pubescent at least towards the base of the lower surface ; petiole 3–9 mm , glabrescent . Inflorescences in raceme-like cymes 2(-4)-flowered , glabrous or sparsely pubescent ; peduncle 1 . 9–3 . 3 cm long ; bracts lanceolate , ± 1 mm , deciduous ; pedicels 11–16 mm long , slender , becoming robust in fruit . Flowers white with pink or maroon markings ; calyx-lobes reddish , ovate-oblong to ovate-lanceolate , acute , 3 × 1–1 . 5 mm , pubescent , particularly towards the apex ; corolla white with pink or maroon markings , lobed to about half-way ; tube saucer-shaped , ± 10 mm in diameter , ± 5 mm deep , glabrous except for the annular corona which forms a shallow , minutely but ...
